Today is a bittersweet day. I took a little trip to the library and picked up five films I’m very excited to watch, but I’m also a bit sad, because TMP’s Through the Library series will be finished once these are watched!
You may have noticed that in order to complete the alphabet, there should be six films in this stack. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find a film at the library beginning with the letter X – only discs of The X-Files were in that section. It’s the only letter in the series that has failed me!
Here are the films that I was able to find, to finish off the alphabet, plus a bonus appearance by my pup:
Unfaithfully Yours – 1948, dir. Preston Surges; starring Rex Harrison, Linda Darnell, Rudy Valley and Barbara Lawrence
Von Ryan’s Express – 1965, dir. Mark Robson; starring Frank Sinatra and Trevor Howard
Watch on the Rhine – 1943, dir. Herman Shumlin; starring Bette Davis and Paul Lukas
You Only Live Once – 1937, dir. Fritz Lang; starring Henry Fonda and Sylvia Sidney
Zero Hour! – 1957, dir. Hall Bartlett; starring Dana Andrews, Linda Darnell and Sterling Hayden
I’m curious about the Fritz Lang movie. I’ve never heard of it. Is it a silent film?

As far as I know, it isn’t silent. From what I’ve read, it’s supposed to be very gritty and is considered one of the earliest examples of film noir. I’m very excited to watch it and do more research on it!
