This is my birth month, and every single major release film in it looks like a dud. I will spend July boycotting The Lone Ranger.

August 23
Apparently this has already been out for over a year but is just getting a theatrical run near the end of 2013? That may not bode well, but regardless, in August I begin to seek out horror films. I get in the spirit for the day of spooks way too early.
September
The Little Mermaid (3D re-release)
September 13
Never did I think I’d be looking forward to two 3D re-releases, but in addition to my dad’s inevitable enthusiasm for Top Gun I’M REALLY EXCITED FOR THE LITTLE MERMAID. This was one of the staple films of my childhood, and in my opinion Disney has done a great job with these 3D re-releases, keeping the gimmicky effects to a minimum.

Part of me is nervous about this because it would be very easy to screw up. Part of me is very excited because I think it may stick more closely to the book than the Sissy Spacek film did (though I love that version a whole lot). At this moment, the excitement is winning out.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

I’ve been looking forward to this since the minute I walked out of the theater from the first installment. The second book in the series is my favorite. The adaptation of the first book really impressed me and I’m hoping this one will be even better.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

I’ve read the story, I’ve seen the 1947 film. I have fairly low hopes for this new version based on the cast, but I’ll probably see it anyway out of curiosity.
Saving Mr. Banks

Tom Hanks starring as Walt Disney in a biopic about the making of Mary Poppins? Count me in! If he can make me enjoy Larry Crowne, I’m pretty sure he can make me enjoy anything. The rest of the cast looks pretty promising as well.

From your list of films that you still need to see from 2012, my recommendations would be Argo, Moonrise Kingdom, and Seven Psychopaths, all in my Top 5 for the year. Seven Psychopaths is quite violent, but if you saw and enjoyed In Bruges, then you should like this one.
And I don’t know why you’re boycotting The Lone Ranger, but based on the preview trailer I saw, I’ll be avoiding this one like the plague as well.

In Bruges is amazing! I’ll bump all of those up to the top of the list.
I’m boycotting The Lone Ranger because of Johnny “I’m 1/16th Native but I can’t even name my tribe” Depp being cast as Tonto when there are a plethora of underrated Native actors who could have brought some semblance of accurate portrayal to the role. Also, the trailer does look terrible!

Yeah, seeing Johnny Depp in that role when I saw the trailer puzzled me, too. I think I’d even watch the horrific 1981 version before this new one.

I haven’t seen the ’81 film but sight unseen I feel confident in saying that it probably blows the ’13 film out of the water haha. I wish they’d stop milking Depp’s “star power” and throwing him in every movie. I love some of his older films (Cry-Baby, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Benny and Joon, etc.) but I’m rapidly becoming tired of seeing his name.

I have yet to see the trailer to the upcoming baseball biopic ’42’, but if Depp is playing Jackie Robinson, I’m boycotting ALL movies forever!

Ha! I’m sure Depp tried to audition for that role, but luckily it went to a relatively unknown television actor. There’s still hope for Hollywood!
