Everyone and their brother! Nice! Sadly, I have no personal recommendations for you this time…you’ve seen all the films I would’ve suggested! So, my blind recommendation this week is: find a film noir movie you haven’t seen, on one of those other forgotten channels, and watch it!

I’m one step ahead of you! I recently bought ‘Man in the Vault’ blind from TCM during their glorious customer appreciation sale, so I’ll be watching that as my forgotten/neglected noir for the week.

Wait, I think I’ve got that one…hold on a sec (pretend to be waiting for me to check my shelf of DVDs)…no, that was ‘Man in the Attic’ from my MGM Midnite Movies collection. And are you saying I missed a TCM sale? And I’ve never heard of ‘Man in the Vault’…I’ll check my film noir guide.
Two days ago I ended up at the WB Store site by accident and found they had a sale going on their made-to-order DVDs…so I quickly ordered 8 baseball films from the 1930s to the 1950s to add to my monstrous collection.
I’ll have my next noir review coming up this Sunday…and I’m looking forward to seeing your review for ‘Man in the Vault’!

It was 20% off everything on the site if I remember correctly… some time at the beginning of the month. You should join their email list if you aren’t on it already. They always send out alerts on sales/coupon codes. I picked three from the $5 and under section so I wouldn’t completely ruin my bank account. I’d never heard of Man in the Vault, but it looked interesting, so I couldn’t pass it up for such a small price!

I’ll definitely join that e-mail list…that $5 and under deal sounds very cool. TCM has that Film Noir Collection III set, but it’s so freaking expensive! When THAT goes into the $5 bin, it’s mine!
Just found the listing on the TCM Shop for ‘Man in the Vault’…looks interesting. If this is not too bold a question: what were the other two films that you purchased?

‘The Crawling Eye’ and ‘And Then There Were None.’ Those were also blind purchases. None of the DVDs on my wish list were in the cheap-o bin, so I went for a few randoms that looked enjoyable. :)

a few months ago, I picked up ‘The Crawling Eye’ as a blind purchase, too! I haven’t watched it yet, though. I love making these cheap, blind purchases with noir or sci-fi/horror from the ’50s and ’60s…that’s how I found ‘The Tingler’ and ‘Affair in Trinidad’, among others.

Yes! I’m a bit of a blind purchase addict because I know all of the good places to find cheap DVDs and I love discovering new to me films so much. My mindset always becomes “Why would I buy a $20 DVD of a film I’ve already seen when I could discover six new to me films for the same price?” It takes over every time!

Sorry, I conked out last night! In conclusion…I own all of my favorite films already, so now every DVD I buy is basically something new to me. A few local places have some good $3 to $5 deals, and a lot of times I find quite a few titles that I’ve heard good things about, but have never seen, so I grab ’em. And in a related story, tomorrow I’m buying a rotating storage tower that holds 756 DVDs, that I’ll actually be close to filling up…sadly, at some point soon I’ll HAVE to stop buying movies (unless I buy a second tower).

Most of the stuff on my wish list comes from the “super five” review section of this blog — films I’ve discovered through TCM/Netflix/wherever and just haven’t been able to buy yet. I thought I owned all of my favorites until I began discovering dozens of new favorites by working on this blog. :P
Buy the second tower. I bought a second bookcase so I could have one dedicated to my DVDs! (I haven’t quite filled it up yet — the top shelf houses my antique cameras and the bottom shelf houses my photographic work, currently — but I’m sure I’ll fill it up someday and need a third case, haha.)

What an interesting coincidence…I have antique cameras on my current DVD bookcase as well, only mine are antique 8mm and Super 8 movie cameras!
And as much as I’m tempted to buy that second tower, three negative aspects would make me hesitant to do so: my apartment can barely fit one as it is, the stupid thing costs $300, and of course, a second tower would mean buying an additional 756 movies!
Wait, that last one might be a good thing…

756 additional movies is definitely a good thing. I completely understand the space issue, though. There are five people in my household and my allotted territory is about the size of a pea pod. I recently sold/donated four or five bags of books because I didn’t have room for them all. As much as I loved being surrounded by books, it became an issue when stacks of them started taking over the floor and furniture!

That’s exactly what was happening with my DVDs, especially after I bought those fifty-plus baseball movies: piled here, piled there, then finally stored in boxes in my closet. But I wanted them out, visible for all to see…therefore, the tower. Keep your eyes peeled…maybe I’ll post a picture of it on the site!
