DVD Collection Update

After my big collecting in May I wanted to curb my spending this month, so I only picked up a few things (and got a couple as gifts).

  • 21 Jump Street
This was a gift from my dad. We saw 22 and both loved it, so when we saw that the grocery had the first one for $10 we had to pick it up!
  • One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
My mom saw this in the $5 bin at the grocery store but wasn’t sure if I already had it so she didn’t pick it up. I didn’t have it, but have been wanting to add it to my collection for a very long time. So, the next time I was at the grocery, I dug through the bargain bin to find it! Glad to finally have a copy for myself.
  • Save the Last Dance
A nostalgic buy. My sister and I used to watch this together all the time. I found it for only $5 and couldn’t help myself.
  • Somewhere in Time
My mom is always feeding my DVD addiction! In addition to tracking down Cuckoo’s Nest, she picked this one up in a bargain bin. She knows someone who was an extra in the film and wanted to try to spot them, haha. It’s been years since I’ve seen it, but I’m interested to watch it again!

I also picked up both series of The Paradise, a great BBC costume drama I recently discovered on Netflix. Totally in love with this show. (I’ll be doing a full post on it later this month.) I’m still waiting for Series 1 to arrive – I opted to import them since only series 1 has been released on Region 1 dvd, and I didn’t want to have them in different region releases. Series 2 arrived yesterday, so I’ve decided to include them in this month’s list instead of July’s!

In conclusion…

I had a pretty good viewing month. I’m not quite as far ahead on scheduling posts as I’d like to be, with a new semester of graduate school beginning at the end of August, but hopefully that problem will be remedied by the end of July. I really don’t want to give up the daily posting schedule in Fall, but it can be difficult to make time for films when I’m doing 12+ hours of coursework a day, so I’m going to try my best to get a ton of reviews drafted over the next seven weeks or so! One particular goal for July is to make a sizable dent in the list of as-yet-unwatched films in my DVD collection.

Hope you all had a great first half of the year, and here’s to six more months of “2014 in Film” discoveries!
