I’ve written many times on this blog about Grammy — my mom’s mom, who played a huge role in my journey to becoming a fan of classic film (as well as a huge role in my life in general). Those of you who enjoy reading my Redford screening reports will remember that she introduced my sister and I to Gone with the Wind, and on my birthday in 2014 I shared the story of how I inherited my love of classic film not only from her, but from her father, who worked at a movie theater in her youth.
I’m sad to report that Grammy passed away earlier this week. She would have been 73 years old this October. She has had an enormous influence on my life and her presence will be missed every day. She was truly one of a kind, and the strongest woman I’ve ever known.
I had originally planned on taking this week off from blogging for a camping trip; naturally, I decided immediately to leave camp and come home when I heard the news about Grammy on Tuesday. I will still be taking the rest of the week off from blogging, with the exception of my Anti-Damsel* post on Saturday, as I spend time with family and honor my grandmother’s memory.
*(Grammy was an anti-damsel and a big supporter of my blog. She would have appreciated TMP’s participation in that blogathon!)
As a movie fan herself, Grammy wouldn’t have side-eyed me for partaking in a lot of “viewing therapy” over the next couple of weeks, so I’ll be back to posting next Monday with SUTS recommendations and plenty of upcoming reviews. Thank you all for understanding.
Very sorry to hear of your loss. God bless.

Thank you. It’s been a rough few days but I’m feeling okay now. Or better than I was two days ago, at least haha.

It can be a little rough, I know. My grandma on my Dad’s side passed away over twenty years ago, and every year in June I still have an instinctive split-second thought about getting her a birthday card. Now, in honor of her, every June 13th I watch either ‘It Happened One Night’ or ‘I Was A Male War Bride’, her two favorite all-time movies. Did your grandma have a favorite film?

Her favorite was Gone with the Wind. I’m hoping we’ll find her old two-tape VHS of it when we clean out her apartment; my sister and I practically wore those tapes out watching it over and over with her when we were kids. I have it on DVD so either way we’ll be doing a viewing party in her honor soon. She also loved It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World which I need to buy on DVD.

Two cool classics…both LONG, but cool. And I hope you find that VHS tape…what a neat thing that would be to have as a keepsake.
