Though I took some time off from blogging in March, I didn’t exactly take time off from adding to the collections. Here’s what I picked up!
- Empire Records (1995) – DVD
Special features include additional scenes, music videos, and filmographies. I loved this film as a teen but haven’t seen it in years. Excited to give it a second look after finding this DVD in a bargain bin! Perhaps a reason to revive my “Childhood Favorites Revisited” series?
- Eyewitness (1956) – DVD
Bare-bones DVD with no special features. This film was directed by Muriel Box, whose career I paid tribute to during the recent Early Women Filmmakers blogathon.
- The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) – DVD
Special features include two documentaries (making of and Eastwood in Action), an introduction by Clint Eastwood, production notes, and theatrical trailer. I meant to watch this film way back when I was doing the “Lindsey Tries to Appreciate Westerns” series. Now that I’ve come to appreciate the genre it’ll get a regular ol’ review soon!
- Double Indemnity by James M. Cain
New Avon Library pocket paperback. Of course, this was adapted into a fantastic film in 1944.
- Godzilla: The Official Movie Novelization by Greg Cox
Pocket paperback. Based on the screenplay for the 2014 film, by Max Borenstein, and story by David Callaham.
- March 5, 1938 edition of Picturegoer
Andrea Leeds cover
- July 28, 1952 edition of LIFE
“British Starlets in Hollywood” cover
- April 6, 1964 edition of Newsweek
“Morals on the Campus” cover
- July 26, 1966 edition of LOOK
Cary Grant cover! This was a super exciting find. The headline is “Cary Grant and His Baby” (referring, of course, to daughter Jennifer Grant).
- September 1969 edition of Ebony
Another super exciting find — the cover features Fayard Nicholas! Nicholas is pictured with Lola Falana, “Dancers leap for joy over dramatic film roles.”
- June 1974 edition of TV Radio Mirror
Mary Tyler Moore and Valerie Harper cover, with the headline “Mary Tyler Moore Show Special: Women in Love & Their Men”
