I’m Lindsey, a 30-something gal from Michigan who adores movies (especially old ones).
I fell in love with classic film at a young age after being introduced to It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, and other greats by my grandparents. The obsession only grew from there!
When I’m not busy watching movies you can usually find me reading, building playlists, snuggling with one of the many furry creatures I call family, or spending time outdoors.
About the blog:
In 2010, I began keeping a list of every single film I watched. I’ve continued this tradition every year since, and as I began my third year of list-making, I decided to take things a step further by reviewing every “new to me” film.
TheMotionPictures.net was launched on January 18, 2012, as a home for those reviews — a diary of my film discoveries.
Though I still think of TMP as a diary of my own viewing, I also hope to shed light on the lesser-knowns of the classic era and bring somewhat-forgotten films to the attention of my fellow old Hollywood buffs.
Most of the films covered here come from the 1930s through the early 1960s, though I also cover silent films, period films, post-’65 flicks that are just too good to ignore, and the occasional television series.
From January 2012 through May 2016, TMP was updated daily (with the exception of a few accidental skip days and no-WiFi vacations). Current schedule: New posts are sporadic, but I hope to post at least once or twice a month!

Lindsey, Just wanted to comment on the movie Redhead. If you check Johnny Downs listing IMDb you will see that the movie was released in 1941. Click on the movie and it will take you to the IMDb listing for the movie.

I’ll update the post ASAP! There was no page for it that I could find in 2013, when I wrote the review. I searched multiple databases, multiple ways (including title-only, which in theory should have brought it up). Thanks for the tip!

Thanks, I’m glad you like it! I can’t seem to find your email address, so I’ll just tell you right here:
The changing headers can be made under Dashboard -> Appearance -> Header. Simply upload and crop more than one header photo; it’ll give you the option to either choose one of the images or show a different image on each page. (I think the setting is just called “Random.”)
All of the stuff on the two sidebars comes from widgets, which are also under the Appearance section of the dashboard. My “Recommended Reading” section comes from a widget called “Posts I Like.” It automatically displays posts from any WordPress site that I click “like” on. The larger thumbnails on the home page are from the “Popular posts and pages” widget – another one that does all of the work for you, since the thumbnails show up based on your stats for the day :)

This is a really nice looking blog. I like the layout and that you have an index page where one can easily access all of your reviews at a glance. Too many film blogs don’t have this and I find it frustrating. I like the idea of a 21-year-old who likes classic films. Is there a particular reason why you like classic films so much? I would presume other people your age are not into the old movies as much as you are, or am I wrong?

You’re correct that I’m a rarity among my age group. I was introduced to the greats (The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, The Sound of Music, etc.) as a kid and loved them. In high school my interest grew because I discovered TCM, and the obsession just took off from there. Glad you like the blog!

Lindsey, I love your ‘classics of the corn series’. I’m thinking of doing a William Castle Blogathon, which would be from July 29- Aug 2nd in honor of his release of The Tingler on the 29th of July 1959. It’ll be the 45th anniversary of the film, and I thought it would be great to do a little thingy for the grand showman of schlock. You were one of the first people I thought of who should contribute to the blogathon. Are you interested? I’d love to see you chime in…hope you do. Pick any film or theme you fancy!

I’d love to participate! I’ve already done a Favorite Things About… post on The Tingler but I have a documentary about Castle on the DVR waiting to be watched, so I’ll give that a look and either cook up a tribute post to him or track down another of his films for review. Thanks for thinking of me!

This is great, I’m so glad you’re into it. I’m starting to get the graphics ready for the event. You can write about anything you’re little heart desires. It’ll be fantastic. I’m going to purchase Spine Tingler too. I need to see it, it looks great. I’m going to launch the blogathon on May 31st the anniversary of William Castle’s passing and then the dates I’ve picked July 29-Aug 2. Glad to have you on board!
