Welcome to What to Watch, the series in which I share my TCM picks for the week with you. My summer class ended yesterday (WOOHOO!) so today we’ve got the whole nine yards of WtW: A day-by-day list of the films, links of where to stream or buy those films (for those of you who don’t have TCM) and links to my previous reviews of the films.

All times are listed in EST and subject to change. As always, my “new to me” picks of the week are marked with asterisks. On to the recommendations!

June 26

12:00 am – To Sir, With Love (1967) – Directed by James Clavell; starring Sid Poitier

6:00 am – Outrage (1950)* – This is one of Ida Lupino’s directorial efforts. Like many of the films she directed, this one deals with a controversial subject. Mala Powers stars as a victim of molestation who is ostracized by her gossipy neighbors. (Not available on DVD/streaming)

4:15 pm – Black Hand (1950)* – Gene Kelly in a crime drama! He stars as a man seeking to avenge his father’s murder.

5:00 am – All Through the Night (1942)* – This one looks like it’ll be worth watching for the cast alone. Bogie, Conrad Veidt, Peter Lorre!

10:00 am – June Bride (1948)* – There are a few reasons I want to catch this one. Bette Davis and Robert Montgomery star as bicker-y magazine writers who “turn a small-town wedding into a battleground.” Also, Debbie Reynolds makes her film debut! (Not available on DVD/streaming)

11:45 am – Love in the Afternoon (1957) – Directed by Billy Wilder; starring Gary Cooper and Audrey Hepburn

June 30

2:30 pm – It Happens Every Spring (1949)* – I’ve never been into sports movies but I’m trying to give more of them a chance. Maltin gives this one 3.5 stars, and it stars Ray Milland as a man who discovers a mixture that makes baseballs avoid wooden surfaces — including bats.

4:00 pm – Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) – Directed by Frank Capra; starring Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur

8:00 pm – A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945) – Directed by Elia Kazan; starring Dorothy McGuire, Joan Blondell, etc.

July 1

9:00 am – Anne of Green Gables (1934)* – I loved the book that this film is based on when I was younger but oddly enough, I’ve never seen this adaptation! Anne Shirley stars as the title character. (Not available on DVD/streaming)

July 2

8:00 pm – In Our Time (1944)* – Ida Lupino and Paul Henreid, two of my favorite people! The TCM description of this film reads: “A Polish count and his English wife battle Nazi invaders.” With Lupino and Henreid starring, this should be an interesting little piece of propaganda to watch. (Not available on DVD/streaming)

10:00 pm – Devotion (1946) – Directed by Curtis Bernhardt; starring Ida Lupino, Paul Henreid and Olivia de Havilland
