Watched January 2, 2012:

Thelma and Louise (1991) – 4/5; My mom recommended this movie to me. She found it in the $5 bin and became obsessed with it, insisting that I must watch it as well haha. We usually have pretty similar taste in films (aside from the fact that I love old films much more than she does, but we’re working on that!) so I trusted her recommendation. While it took me a while to really get into this movie, I ended up loving it by the end. The music is great, the film is both dramatic but with just enough of a streak of comedic value; Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis are such a great pair as well.

Blondie of the Follies (1932): 5/5
Five and Ten(1931): 5/5
I’m reviewing these together because I watched them back-to-back after recording them from TCM’s Marion Davies birthday celebration, and because I feel the same about them. I must admit, I hadn’t seen very many Marion Davies films prior to these — maybe two or three — but I loved both of them! Five and Ten was my favorite of the two, but I found both to be absolutely enthralling. I’ve added a ton more of her films to my “What to Watch in 2012” list now.

Blades of Glory (2007): 3/5; My sister and best friend were both obsessed with this film when it came out. When we were younger, we were hooked on figure skating, so that’s probably where the interest came from. My sister and I found it in the $4 bin at a store and she decided to get it. She thought I’d watched it with her before, but I had no recollection of it, so we watched it as soon as we got home from the store. It did get quite a few laughs out of me — especially the bit about the underground ice skating ring in Detroit (where I live) — but it left quite a bit to be desired.

Bell, Book and Candle (1958): 5/5; Such a wonderful and charming film! I found it to be terribly funny. Great performances by the entire cast, and Kim Novak especially stood out to me, much more so than she has in other films that I’ve watched her in. I’m also really, really loving Jack Lemmon and was excited to see another fun character from him here.
