Modern Times (Chaplin, 1936)

  • Why? The first time I saw this film was in one of my very favorite history courses, so I’m fond of it for sentimental reasons. But beyond that, this is one of Chaplin’s finest works. This is one of the best instances I’ve ever seen of a film used to portray social commentary. Amazing.
  • Favorite character: Charlie as the factory worker
  • Favorite quote or scene: I’ve always loved the opening!
