A new year has begun, which means it’s time to wrap up December 2014’s viewing! I managed to watch a decent number of films this month, despite grad school finals, a GoodReads book challenge, and the holiday frenzy. Let’s take a look, shall we?

I attribute the high number of 2010s films to the fact that I went to the theater a lot, and finally got some long-awaited recent releases (like Belle) from the Netflix DVD queue. A month with final exams is never a month where I’m in the mood to review films — my brain is fried, so I tend to go for newer movies (which I only review in full every now and then). January will be much more classic-heavy!
Collection update:
- Divergent – DVD, on sale at Target for $9.99
- Moonrise Kingdom – DVD, $2.99 in the grocery store bargain bin
- The Ramen Girl – DVD, Gift from my mom
- Smother – DVD, Gift from my mom
- Super 8 – DVD, $1.99 in the grocery store bargain bin
- Wonder Boys – DVD, Gift from my mom
There was also one more film that I bought in the grocery store bargain bin, but I can’t remember for the life of me what it was (after looking over my list and the shelves themselves multiple times!)
More great buys from that magic Kroger! And I’m surprised you’d never seen ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ before…will there be any kind of review or recap of that one?

Yep! I’m going to be doing a few full reviews of “modern classics” that I’ve somehow missed. My mom introduced me to most of John Hughes’ films, but we never watched Planes because she didn’t like it as much as the others, haha.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is by far my favorite Hughes film, but Planes ranks up there, too…minus that odd pop synth soundtrack!
