Hey there, movie buffs! Once again, I find myself in a position where it has been a ridiculously long time since I last blogged.

As a warning, this post will be somewhat sad. But if you skip ahead to the recap section, you’ll see the good, bad, and weird of everything I’ve watched since 2020.

Where I’ve Been (Again)

My last update here was in 2021. I told you where I’d been and shared my picks from the Criterion flash sale with promises to be back soon with a post about my classic film book collection.

A couple days after that flash sale post, my mom passed away unexpectedly. A difficult thing for anyone to cope with, but especially difficult when I’d lost my dad only 11 months earlier. Just as I was beginning to attempt to get back to my “old self” and find enjoyment in little things like movies, the nightmare scenario began again.

This blog has always been as much about my adventures in moviegoing as it has been about the films themselves, and I’ve shared numerous times how much my parents meant to me.

They were genuinely two of my best friends, and I know I was unbelievably lucky to have that relationship with them. But the fact that we were so close has made it more difficult for me to find the “new normal.”

Perhaps someone else with a “worry wart” personality can relate — I’ve been a bit afraid to even post to this blog because my mom’s death happened so soon after my last attempt to restart it.

That stage of grief where you start to wonder whether this is all happening because you’re cursed, and you walk back through every moment of the days leading up to the loss, and you start to believe that your actions could have somehow prevented what happened — I was stuck in that stage for a long while (and still revisit it on bad days).

Last week, I suffered yet another loss, saying goodbye to my sister-dog Sophie — my mom’s dog that I had been caring for since her passing. While I’m very upset about saying goodbye to her, I’m finding comfort in my interests this time around (film especially) rather than avoiding them.

And that brings me back to this blog. I originally began drafting this post in 2022. I think the time has finally come to publish it. I don’t think I’ll return to TMP as a daily venture, but I have been watching a lot of movies (including five today alone!) and would like a place to dump my thoughts about them, whether or not anyone else is still interested.

I think I’ve driven pretty far past the border of oversharing now, so I’ll get back to the films below. But for the curious few who still remember TMP fondly, that’s where I’ve been.

The Missing Years: Viewing Recap, 2020 – 2023

The last time I was somewhat consistent on TMP was 2019. Over the past several years, I missed a lot of wrap-ups, mini-reviews, and end-of-year “favorite discoveries” lists.

My goal is to at least post a monthly wrap-up on TMP from here forward, but before I get to that, let’s play catch-up!

Now, I must warn you, part of the reason the blog has been so silent is that I haven’t watched nearly as many classics in the past few years as was once normal for me.

What you’re about to see is going to be very strange, often low-quality, and out-of-character for the “Lindsey of TMP” who used to marathon Stanwyck movies or spend weeks watching nothing but pre-codes.
