It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for me to share my TCM picks for the week! Films marked with an asterisk are films I’ve never seen and hope to catch. All times are listed in EST and subject to change. Streaming/Netflix links are included wherever they’re available!
July 10
12:00 am – Dead Ringer (1964) – Paul Henreid directs Bette Davis in a dual role

8:15 am – The Show (1927)* – Silent film directed by Tod Browning. I haven’t seen enough of his work, so I’ll be tuning in for this one!
9:45 am – A Woman of Affairs (1928) – Garbo as a free-spirited socialite is reason enough to watch. John Gilbert also stars, and Clarence Brown directs.
11:18 am – The Divine Woman (1928)* – More Garbo, this time in a lost film. TCM’s showing a few minutes of surviving footage. Count me in.
8:00 pm – The Reckless Moment (1949) – I’ve got this one on TMP’s schedule for August. I watched it last month and (blog spoiler alert) I thought it was pretty awesome. James Mason and Joan Bennett star!
11:15 pm – Algiers (1938) – One of Hedy Lamarr’s best, directed by John Cromwell and co-starring Charles Boyer.

5:45 pm – Ride the Wild Surf (1964)* – Watching this for Fabian! I’ve been on a Fabian kick since I found one of his records at Salvation Army last week.

I actually have not seen a single film that’s playing on TCM on the 11th, and most of them are Westerns or adventure flicks. Feel free to leave your recommendations for me in the comments!
July 12
3:30 am – The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953) – Two big reasons to watch this one: It’s based on a Bradbury story and Harryhausen did the special effects!

8:30 am – All the King’s Men (1949) – Fantastic political drama that won three Oscars
Netflix DVD rental
8:00 pm – The Bride Wore Black (1968) – Francois Truffaut is another filmmaker I haven’t seen enough of, but I have seen this one and I love it.
July 13
4:00 am – Shoot the Piano Player (1960)* – …and here’s a Truffaut I haven’t seen!

8:00 pm – The Women (1939) – My Jungle Red claws will come out if you don’t tune in for this one. Such a fantastic comedy.

July 14
6:00 am – The Cardinal (1963) – This is an enormous film, clocking in at three whole hours… but it will be worth that running time for viewers interested in Christianity’s relationship to the hot-button issues of the ’60s. I’ll be reviewing it for the Gish Sisters Blogathon!

2:00 pm – The Lady Eve (1941) – STANWYCK ALERT! She and Henry Fonda make a phenomenal team, and this is a wonderful comedy.

Netflix Instant (also available for DVD rental)
July 15
1:15 am – Seven Chances (1925) – One of my very favorite discoveries of this year! Buster Keaton is fantastic in this comedy of a man who can only inherit a fortune if he finds a wife… by 7 pm on this very day.

Netflix Instant (also available for DVD rental)
6:00 am – The Whole Truth (1958)* – Stewart Granger, Donna Reed and George Sanders star in this suspenseful tale about a woman who tries to prove that her husband didn’t kill his mistress.
8:00 pm through 9:00 pm – Carson on TCM – Shelley Winters, Ronald Reagan, Robin Williams, Jonathan Winters and Michael Caine are featured.
July 16
6:00 am – Rain (1932)* – Joan Crawford pre-code! She faces off with a preacher portrayed by Walter Huston. Also made as a silent film and as a 1953 Rita Hayworth vehicle.

7:45 am – Hallelujah, I’m a Bum (1933)* – The title alone made me want to watch this one, and Maltin’s 3.5-star review seals the deal. Al Jolson, Madge Evans and Frank Morgan star.

Great post, I’ll have to watch some of these if I get the time.

Thank you! There hasn’t been a single week since I started the What to Watch series that I’ve watched all of the films I wanted to, haha. “So many films, so little time” has never been more relevant than it is in relation to TCM. Hope you get to catch a few of them!

Do catch the rest of the John Gilbert series before ‘The Reckless Moment’ (fab flick) on Wednesday.

‘The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms’ and ‘The Bride Wore Black’…both cool! And I’ve recently watched ‘Dead Ringer’ and ‘Seven Chances’, and will be posting the reviews soon. As for July 11th: I have nothing to recommend!

I look forward to reading your reviews of those!

I was about to write ‘And I’ll look forward to yours!”, but then wondered, what if she already reviewed them? A quick search revealed a ‘Seven Chances’ review, and the funny thing is, I commented on it! I said the film was in my queue, and I’d be watching it soon. ‘Soon’ meaning five months, I guess.
Anyway, I liked your review, and feel the same way about the movie. I have a couple other Keaton’s in my queue now, that I’ve never seen before, and which I’ll get too ‘soon’.
