Make room on the mantelpiece — ANOTHER Liebster Award for TMP!

It seems I’m one lucky duck as of late. Another wonderful blogger, this time Summer Reeves of Serendipitous Anachronisms, has nominated me for a Liebster Award!

Just a couple of weeks ago I passed out 11 nominations of my own, so I won’t be doing a full post again, but I did want to thank Summer and take the time to answer her questions. Here they are!

  1. What movie have you seen more times than necessary?
I’m going to embarrass myself here. It’s Hannah Montana: The Movie. Did I like the show? No. Was it “necessary” for me to watch this movie even once? No. But it’s one of those movies that my sister and I like to watch together for laughs, so I’ve seen it way more times than would be considered necessary or proper, haha.
  2. What movie scared you?
I’m not frequently scared by movies. I enjoy watching horror films (as long as they aren’t too heavy on the gore), and I love a good psychological thriller, but rarely do these films actually scare me. I will say, when I saw Halloween for the first time while in middle school, I was terrified!
  3. What do you wish they would adapt or re-adapt to cinema?
My biggest book-to-film wishes are still The Seance by John Harwood and Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella, as I discussed a few years ago when I did a whole “adaptation month” on the blog. I would also love to see the Rose Gardner Mysteries series by Denise Grover Swank turned into a TV show.
  4. Are there any forthcoming films or TV shows you are excited about?
I’m very excited for the return of Hell on Wheels next week! In terms of actual new stuff that’s coming up, I’m mildly interested in the campy-looking Scream Queens series and Supergirl. (I’m not big on superhero stuff, but the trailer for Supergirl was cute. It looks like it might be a fun show.) On the film front, I’m looking forward to watching: Brooklyn, The Gift, Z for Zachariah, Irrational Man, The Martian, the final Hunger Games film… lots of stuff!
  5. What are your favorite Shakespeare-ish films (Derivative work)?
There are a couple of Shakespeare modernizations that I love: 10 Things I Hate About You (inspired by The Taming of the Shrew) and She’s the Man (inspired by Twelfth Night). My favorite Shakespeare-ish film would have to be, of course, Forbidden Planet, which isn’t a direct adaptation but bears strong resemblance to The Tempest.
  6. What’s your favorite movie about show business?
Singin’ in the Rain and The Artist are obvious contenders, but my favorites are probably A Star is Born — the Judy Garland version — and Sullivan’s Travels.
  7. What’s your favorite documentary?
I don’t have a single favorite, but I love to watch documentaries. A few that come to mind are Burt’s Buzz, Roger & Me, Jesus Camp, Prom Night in Mississippi. I also love watching true crime and nature docs.
  8. What’s your favorite movie score?
The Lord of the Rings series by Howard Shore and Vertigo by Bernard Herrmann
  9. Why did you start blogging?
When I started my blog, I was a journalism major looking to generate some clips for my portfolio and to get more experience with writing/editing. I also wanted a place to share my love of classic film, because I had no friends who were interested in it.
  10. What do you think is the nicest thing you’ve discovered about blogging?
The nicest thing about blogging, aside from meeting people with similar interests, is having a record of all of the wonderful films I’ve discovered, as well as my initial reactions to those films. It’s a lot of fun to go back and look at old reviews when I watch a film for the second time!
  11. What are your other interests?
I love photography, both digital and film. (I can develop my own B&W film and prints!) I love spending time outdoors and camping. I also love reading and research. I’m one of those people who wants to know everything about everything — I’m endlessly curious, so whenever something piques my interest (which usually occurs several times a day), I feel compelled to research it, whether it’s an insect I’ve never seen, a criminal case, or a building with interesting architecture.

Thanks again, Summer, for the generous award!

Thank you! I’ve had an interest in it from a very young age. The only downside of that hobby is that the family tries to enlist me as event photographer for every get-together… but people are my least-favorite thing to photograph! haha

It’s a great one! I’ll watch pretty much anything with Joel McCrea.

Re: Miley, in a way, I’m kind of impressed by her. I never thought she’d have much of a career after her Disney reign ended. Her acting in that movie (and in the show, from what I’ve seen of it) was… not great, haha. While I’m not a fan of her new image/music, she was smart to stick with that rather than continuing to act, haha.
