December was a lucky month for the collection. I didn’t personally spend a single penny on adding to the shelves, but was very thoughtfully gifted several films and film-related books for the holidays. Here’s the list of December acquisitions!
BOOKS
- The Hollywood Story by Joel W. Finler
Cool coffee table book gifted by mom! This looks like a quick and fun read/reference. A quick flip-through revealed a lot of charts and great photos. It also has an interesting gift tag on the first page and appears to have been a gift from an AMC network employee to a friend! - Into the Wild by John Krakauer
Mom picked up a copy of this for me, and one for my sister. We all enjoy the film version. I read the book from the library several years ago but will be glad to re-read it, and it makes a great addition to my shelf of books that have been turned into films! - Sinatra: The Chairman by James Kaplan
This beast of a book is going to take me forever to read, but I’m so excited about it! I started it at the end of December and am greatly enjoying it. It’s been on my to-read list since it came out, so this was one of my favorite gifts from dad! - Sinatra: Ol’ Blue Eyes Remembered by David Hanna
This gift from mom adds to my collection of movie star books that are brief in page length but great fun to flip through. It looks great on the shelf, too, currently displayed with the cover facing outward!
FILMS
- Frankenstein (1931) – DVD
Cool DVD edition with a glow-in-the-dark slipcover, from mom! - The Magnificent Seven (1960) and The Magnificent Seven (2016) – Blu
The original and the remake on Blu from Dad! We saw the remake together at the theater last year. Now I can subject him to a double feature with the 1960 version and continue with my plan to convert everyone I know into a classic movie buff! - The Mindy Project, Season 4 – DVD
A gift from mom, who also loves the show! We had a marathon of the season together over several days after Christmas, which was a lot of fun.
