The month in blogging:
Finally got a few reviews from the backlog up in June — Corridors of Blood (1958), Crime School (1938), and Ride the Pink Horse (1947).
July will be busier here on the blog. I know I’ve said several times over the past year or so without sticking to it — but without getting too rambly or personal, I suddenly find myself with more free time than I’ve had in recent months. I have some neat films scheduled for July including a sci-fi collection, the last few films I watched on FilmStruck, and a Criterion DVD blind buy. Stay tuned!
I hope you all had a good June (or better than mine, at least), and here’s to a film-filled July.
There’s some crazy ones in there! The Leech Woman, Cult of the Cobra and Dr Cyclops all sound deranged. Especially like the sound of Dr Cyclops.
Logan’s Run will always be a fav from my youth. Though the last third act is a bit of a let down compared to beginning imho.
Not sure I can bring myself to watch new Shaft! But Grandad Shaft might pull me in.
I love Ghost World. It’s on the list of films to introduce to my daughter, Hopefully soon I’ll get to see again. Makes a perfect double bill with American Splendor :)
I do hope you have a brighter July Lindsey
All the best.. Mikey

Thanks, Mikey!
Those “deranged” titles all happen to be from the very same boxed set, The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection, Volume 2. I need to finish the last two films, but it’s been fun to watch through. Hope to have individual film reviews + a DVD set review up soon.
Grandad Shaft was my reason for seeing the new one! That, and I had a ticket credit from Fandango that was about to expire. I liked it more than I expected to, but my expectations were quite low, so I’m not quite sure I’d recommend it, haha. Maybe if it pops up on a streaming service and curiosity gets the best of you. I’ve certainly seen worse this year.
Ghost World might be my all-time favorite film, if I had to pick just one. I hope your daughter loves it! I haven’t seen American Splendor — I’ll add that to my watchlist!

Oh what a excellent box-set buy that was. You certainly got your monies worth.
Sounds like we had similar thoughts on Shaft. I’ll have to take the plunge if the moment arises. It’s on Netflix so it always an excuse to get my “subs” money back.
I bought her the comic book of Ghost World a few years back. I can’t wait to see it again….. I’m pretty positive you will love American Splendor :)

The “deranged” titles are all the ones I know best, of course. “Leech Woman” is objectionable on a number of levels, but strangely compelling despite this. “Dr. Cyclops” is kind of dull for a color sci fi movie, but has nice effects. “Cult of the Cobra” may actually be my favorite out of those.

I think “Cult of the Cobra” might be my favorite, too! I expected it to be Dr. Cyclops — I usually love “shrunken beings” movies — but I agree that it’s the least exciting of the three, unfortunately. Still some fun moments, though. Excited to see how the last two films in the set fare!

I see you delved into that Universal sci-fi collection we both own! Some good ones there…I especially liked ‘Cult of the Cobra’. And ‘Logan’s Run’…my first ‘nude scene’ movie!
I got back home to Peoria, finally, after my trip to Michigan; sadly, no visits to the Redford!

Yep, I believe I have two more films to watch in that collection — I’ll probably finish it up next week! So far, I do like the first set better overall but this one has been almost as fun.
You’ll have to come back to this side of the Mitten some time and stop at the Redford and the Senate! I’m overdue for a trip to the Redford, myself. Several other cool stops to make, too — the Michigan Theater (Ann Arbor), Cinema Detroit, the theater at the Detroit Institute of Arts. I should start a business running Detroit tours for movie buffs, haha (or perhaps just make a blog post about it!).
