DVD collection update:

I was pretty good at restraining my DVD collecting this month but I did pick up a few things from the $4.99 bargain section at Barnes & Noble. I shouldn’t be allowed to walk into the entertainment section of B&N — I always find something I want. (Really, I shouldn’t be able to walk into B&N at all, because I love collecting books, too!) My acquisitions are as follows:

  • Mill Creek triple feature: Mr. Destiny (1990), Hello Again (1987) and Taking Care of Business (1990)
  • Mill Creek triple feature: Green Card (1990), Hope Springs (2003) and Mumford (1999)
  • Sandburg’s Lincoln (6-part miniseries from 1974, also released by Mill Creek)

I swear I didn’t realize these were all Mill Creek until I got home, but hey, now I can use them all for the Mill Creek Musings series!

I actually lied when I said I was good at restraining my DVD spending this month. The day after Christmas, I did $40 worth of damage at Best Buy… but in my defense, these DVDs didn’t come out of my own budget. They were bought with Christmas money. Not a single dollar was spent from my own bank account. Also in my defense, I had more than $40 of Christmas money to spend, and only spent $40… I think that deserves a pat on the back, considering just how addicted I am to DVDs! (Curious minds, I used the rest of the Christmas money to buy a much-needed little bookshelf from Target and a Detroit Red Wings winter hat.) Here’s what I got on the 26th:

  • Dr. No, $4.99
  • Mousehunt, $4.99
  • The Princess Bride, $4.99
  • Rhinestone, $4.99
  • The Frank Sinatra Film Collection (includes The Pride and The Passion, Kings Go Forth, A Hole in the Head, Can-Can, The Manchurian Candidate, Von Ryan’s Express, Cast a Giant Shadow, Tony Rome, The Detective and Lady in Cement), $19.99

My mom, kind soul that she is, bought me seasons 4 and 5 of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. I already own seasons 1 and 2 as well as the movies, and (spoiler alert for next month’s wrap-up) seasons 3 and 6 were my first DVD purchases of 2014, so now I’ve completed my Dr. Quinn collection!

Much excitement was also had on the final day of the year when my prize from The Lady Eve’s holiday gift giveaway arrived. I won a book about Grace Kelly and the TCM Greatest Classic Legends: Elizabeth Taylor film collection (includes Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Butterfield 8, Father of the Bride and The Sandpiper). Huge thank you to The Lady Eve! Be sure to check out her wonderful blog, The Lady Eve’s Reel Life.

Tomorrow on the blog I’ll have a full “2013 in Review” wrap-up of my viewing and blogging in the past year. Happy new year, and I hope 2014 is a great one for you all!

    1. Yeah, there are some real gems of titles in the Slapstick Encyclopedia set I’ve been watching. Super-Hooper-Dyne Lizzies is probably the most unique and wacky one I’ve run across, haha.

Happy New Year to you, too! Hope the first day of 2014 is treating you well! :)
