Happy March, movie buffs! I have some wonderful films lined up for coverage on the blog this month, including at least two new entries for the Stanwyck Filmography Project, but before we get to any of that, let’s take a look at what I watched in February.
New-to-me viewings: 17
Re-watches: 2
Total for the month: 19
Total for 2017, so far: 50
It was a lower viewing month than January, but that’s kind of to be expected since it was also a shorter month. Given the amount of time consumed by job-hunting this month and the fact that I took a four-day trip to a hotel with no TCM and terrible wifi, I think I did pretty well!
The new-to-me list:
- Edge of Darkness (1943)
- Let’s Make It Legal (1951)
- The Space Between Us (2017)
- The 1989 World Tour Live (2016)
- Rome Adventure (1962)
- Savage Grace (2007)
- Our Song (2000)
- Underworld, U.S.A. (1961)
- Merrily We Live (1938)
- El Baron del Terror (1962)
- Fist Fight (2017)
- Britney Ever After (2017)
- The Alligator People (1959)
- Moonlight (2016)
- Broadway Babies (1929)
- This Is My Affair (1937)
- Topper Returns (1941)
My five favorite discoveries of the month were The Alligator People (1959), Edge of Darkness (1943), Moonlight (2016), This Is My Affair (1937), and Underworld U.S.A. (1961).
Moonlight truly lives up to the hype, folks. It’s such a unique film, and I could spend hours gushing about it, but I won’t because this is supposed to be a quick wrap-up post! If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s expanding in theaters this weekend thanks to its Best Picture win. I’m so glad to have had the chance to watch it this month (via Amazon rental) and will definitely be catching it on the big screen and/or buying it on DVD.
Re-watched:
- Titanic (1953)
- Designing Woman (1957)
Just two re-watches this month! You’ll see Designing Woman as this month’s “Favorite Things” film later this week, and Titanic was, of course, re-watched for the Stanwyck project.

The month in blogging:
Lots of good stuff on the blog this month!
First off, I’ve picked up the pace of the Stanwyck Project this year, as we near the project’s end. There were four updates to the project in February including Stanwyck’s earliest surviving film, The Locked Door (1929); a Western, Cattle Queen of Montana (1954); and a Second Look at Stanwyck’s cameo in Hollywood Canteen (1944). The “Favorite Things About…” film of the month was also a Stanwyck film, rounding out the four: Meet John Doe (1941).
There were three FilmStruck Fridays in February. From the TCM/Criterion streaming service I reviewed Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (1956), Green for Danger (1947), and The Seventh Veil (1945), all of which I greatly enjoyed.
February is also the month of our most favorite Hallmark holiday, Valentine’s Day. To celebrate, I cooked up a post with two lists: my mom’s Nicholas Sparks movie adaptation ranking, and my favorite hate-turned-love couples from classic film.
There you have it — February in review! I hope you all had a wonderful month, and here’s to a movie-filled March.
I’m looking forward to your review of ‘Rome Adventure’…I’m curious to see how closely it parallels a certain Gregory Peck-Audrey Hepburn film of the 1950s, if the very-similar-looking poster above is any indication!
